303 Rifle info

Any experts out there have any information I can give to a friend?

This rifle was left to him by a deceased family member, and he doesn't know squat about guns. (Me either)
I said I'd ask around here if he could provide pics, so take a look please and let me know what I can tell him regarding this rifle.
A friend of his told him the bolt action looks like a Mausuer (sp?) bolt, and that it likely shoots british rounds. That guy also suspects that it is a P 13 or a rifle from 1913.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!

Re: 303 Rifle info

It appears to be a P14 (in.303 Brit). These were made by Remington/Eddystone for the British at the beginning of WWI in the US (sometimes referred to as the US Enfield). Production in .303 ceased in 1917 when the US entered the war amd these were produced for US troops in 30.06 caliber as the P17 (due to a severe shortage of 1903 Springfields). In either caliber these rifles are popular collectibles and still good shooters. Of course if it has been sporterized it reduces the value from a collector standpoint (which this rifles appears to have been, missing the rear sight ears and the handguard for example).

Great info Desert jack! I have the Enfield version .303 british. A few years back they were cheap and plentiful on the surplus market, and ammo here in NW Michigan is easy to find. They are hard hitters and many are used as inexpensive and very effective deer killers in my area.

It looks like an enfield p14 that is missing its rear site.

I don't know much about the Rifle but I have a hundred rounds of 303 brass.

I fire-form the cases in my 410 (using 40 grains of FFg and birdshot/overwads) and use the blown out shells for 410 reloads.

Works slick.
